Library of Congress zet gebruikers aan het taggen

The Library of Congress roept de hulp in van de Flickr-gemeenschap om de enorme fotocollectie van de bibliotheek te identificeren. Het resultaat is Flickr Commons. De doelstelling van dit pilootproject is "to firstly give you a taste of the hidden treasures in the huge Library of Congress collection, and secondly to show how your input of a tag or two can make the collection even richer." Volgens een medewerker van de LOC hoopt de bibliotheek dat..." Flickr's community of users will apply tags—usually one-word descriptions—to them. The photos are already online at the library's Web site, but the LOC hopes Flickr's 23 million members will tell them something about the images they don't already know." (Newsweek)

Volgens mij een prachtig voorbeeld van de 'wisdom of crowds' en van hoe een bibliotheek gebruik kan maken van web 2.0-technologie om de kennis van de gebruiker in huis te halen.
